ParentsResource.org is a site devoted to helping families in New Hampshire solve the great and small questions of parenting.   A relatively new site as of June 2002, the sites founders, Lisa Lividoti and Deborah Duggan, are mothers who saw the need to crystallize information, links and tips for parents in New Hampshire into a concise and easy-to-use format.  A business with a cause-they are supported by advertising revenue-they have information on story time gatherings, family crafts, places to go and things to do with children throughout the state.  They also are interested in hearing from other parents about making the most of the "growing years."

The MBG Marketing Company from Bridgewater, Massachusetts runs an ambitious and informative site called The Gay Emporium.  Simply put, they seek to serve New England’s Gay, Lesbian, Bi-Sexual and Transgender communities, as well as the friends, with up-to-date information on professional services, entertainment, health resources and organizational contacts for community members.  The site includes a shopping mall, trivia, sporting news and online discussion groups, in an attractive and easy-to-use format. 

New England Weather Associates in North Adams, Massachusetts as been  providing customized weather forecasts and services to businesses and municipalities in the Berkshire region since 1973.  Working closely with clients to determine the weather information they need, the company uses the latest technology to give "weather sensitive" organizations a tool to plan events, services and operations.    Owned and operated by John Hockridge, a member of the American Meteorological Society, the site includes links to "live" national weather cams, local forecasts, an online store and radar visuals.

Well, maybe you can, but you might think of sticking your toes in the water before you make the plunge.    Nancy-Linn Nellis has owned and operated a B&B for over 15 years and she knows a thing or two about the business.   Her site, INN-Formation.com  has the details on seminars she offers for aspiring Innkeepers or Innsitters.  The four-day, hands-on experience in Searsport, Maine mixes a congenial atmosphere with some of the less romantic aspects of innkeeping like taxes and accounting.   The site includes seminar dates, how to get in touch with them and prices.

From Newington, Connecticut comes an interesting site, and a great idea, for the budding boat owner. FirstBoat.com is resource for people who are interested in buying a boat but are smart enough to know what they don't know.   The site offers solid information on buying a boat without being broad sided, where to learn about boat safety, boating insurance, boat show schedules and many other seaworthy tips for the nautically challenged.  They also have good links to purchase a new or used boat.

Mike Urban runs a great site and business for people with old radios and record players (you remember them, don't you?) He fixes them and you can learn more at  Urban Antique Radio and Vintage Hi-Fi  or visit his Showroom and Shop (By appt. only) in Milford CT.  He does business nationwide and has some wonderful recommendations.  The pictures at the site suggest to us that he is an easy guy to get along with and knows his stuff.

Unique Retailing

Northeasttrader is a relatively new site from West Burke, Vermont, offering a wide range of classified advertising.  Their rates are very reasonable-for some, FREE-and based on their initial success, they've decided to offer their unique services nationally.  

To this day, we don’t know exactly why it works… it just does!!  from the site.  

Not only is the Wiffle Ball a registered trademark, (and a darn good one, we might add) but the item itself is was born and bread in New England for the entire world to enjoy.  David J. and Stephen A. Mullany are the current keepers of the Wiffle, representing the third generation of a family business that started, after some experimentation, with a ball with eight oblong perforations.  The first one, (boy, we wish we had one) was made in 1953 and the rest, as they say, is a ground rule double.   The site includes details on how the Wiffle Ball got started, a store for Wiffle Stuff, (made in the USA) and the rules of the game. 

Maybe you're not thinking of quilts right now but as we all know, or should, among the top ten inventions in history is the quilt.   They look good, are easy to maintain, last forever and (this is the great part) keep us warm in the winter.  Ann Shaw is from Benson, Vermont and she makes marvelous quilts-in traditional, historic and cutting edge designs-that are available at her web site, Classic Quilts of Vermont.  At the site you can see the "quilts in action," select designs and colors and place an order.   Pretty neat.  One stop quilt shopping.

Neelon Art  is a site from Cataumet, Massachusetts and presents the photographs, prints, post cards and other offerings of Michael Neelon.   While a lover of the Cape Cod region, Neelon travels and works extensively in all parts of New England, paying particular attention to the interaction and interplay of New Englanders (and we guess a few visitors) with the landscape and environment of our rocky paradise  A simple, straight forward site, with a charm befitting the photographer's substantial gifts and well worth a visit.

Pixel Paintings are actually digitally enhanced photographs taken by photographer Joe Parskey.  A resident of Scituate, Massachusetts,  Parskey's paintings offer strikingly vivid images of New England's coastal seascapes as well as unique visions of familiar landmarks in Boston and elsewhere in our region.  His collections are all thumbnailed for easy viewing and available for purchase online.  One can also send a New England Pixel Painting post card, via the Internet, to friends and family via the site.

Francos Wine Merchants have been a part of the New Canaan, Connecticut business community since 1933.  Offering a variety of in all price ranges, they have "tastings" every Saturday afternoon and welcome visitors to explore their shop and their historic town.  The site includes current special wine offerings and offers a search program to find a particular wine.  

Vermont Laser Works, in Essex offers a full range of engraving, etching and design services using state-of-the-art laser technology.  The site includes remarkable color photographs of their work, contact information (with a toll free number) and the refreshing reminder of Satisfaction Guaranteed. 

Dr. Lankin's Awesome Almonds! is headquartered in Groton, Connecticut and as the name suggests, the company offers almonds via online ordering or by their network of retailers.  Attractively packaged, the company offers fundraising plans for non profit organizations and Every order generates at least $2.00 in revenue for CW Resources of New Britain, Connecticut that provides training and jobs for people with disabilities.

Since 1951 people have been dining at Foster's Downeast Clambake in York Harbor Maine and all across the country-including a distinctive address on Pennsylvania Avenue in Washington.
