We don't
know a lot about Rich
Schroder save for the fact that he was born in our home town,
New York City, and that he has been able to make a living as a singer
songwriter living in Brookline,
Massachusetts.
We also learn from his web site that he has lived in Lebanon, Tehran
and Cameron; providing him with a certain viewpoint that all too many
Americans lack. His site is a logical expression of his
past, as we suspect, is his music.

In
1985 Margaret
MacArthur was named a "New England Living Art Treasure" by the
UMASS Art Biennial committee for-among many other things-her work
to perform, preserve and study old, traditional music and songs.
While not a Yankee by birth, she moved to Vermont in 1948, she and
the MacArthur family have recorded ten albums starting in 1962
with Folksongs of Vermont.
The
family performs regularly throughout New England, blending new and
old songs with music from a fiddle, mandolin, dulcimer or
harp-zither. The site includes upcoming concerts, how
to purchase records and some fine photographs of Margaret, the
MacArthur family and the instruments they play.

Just
four days after September 11, The
East Side Poets performed for at Nashua's 7th Annual Street Beat
Festival, without the benefit of a stage, lighting or a sound
system worthy of the name. According to reports, these
shortcomings did nothing to diminish the enthusiasm of the crowd
who were WOWed by their "street-smart" rapping,
augmented by an expected but interesting measure of theatrics.
Their repertoire is matched and refined to the dictates of their
audiences, ranging from younger students, teenagers, college
gatherings and night club performances. They write their own music
and produce their own recordings. Someday, we suspect, we
all may hear a lot more from them.
The
site needs plug in for full appreciation but there are good pictures of
the poets in action and some of their friends.
