Just added:

Michelle Rose and Christopher K. Larochelle have combined their varied backgrounds, skills and interests in founding Gallery 27 in the community of Camp Ellis Beach, Maine.  Open, understandably during Maine's warmers seasons (Spring to the Fall); they offer an arrange of original paintings, jewelry, fashion accessories and a line of soap and soap products.  All are interestingly presented, sometimes stunning and always created in the style of "progressive".

Travel

The Wall Street Journal picked The Bermels' Guide to Mount Desert Island, Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park as the top pick on the Internet to learn about the area.  Although the site's developers, Larry and Michele Bermel, live in Chappaqua, NY we think the Journal made a wise pick.  Included are great photographs, wonderful and varied "reviews" of things to do in the area and an unobtrusive but candid appeal for donations to support their work.

Looking for a Maine Getaway?  Ogunquit Rentals specializes in renting well maintained cottages, houses, condos and apartments in the seaside village of Ogunquit, Maine. The site offers pictures, prices and rental information from a large inventory of vacation housing options.   All are close to the ocean and but none in Ogunquit are directly on the beach.

The Beal & Bunker Mail Boat and Ferry Service is a family run business that serves Great Cranberry, Little Cranberry, and on request, Sutton's Island in Maine.  They operate all year, as they have for over forty years, providing commuter, mail and freight service from Northeast Harbor.  Special, off-shore excursions and private charters are available-the great views are free-but leave your car on the mainland.  Bicycles are okay.

Ogunquit, Maine has an online community, ogunquitnet with local information, a message board and tips for travelers.

Go Scarborough! is a guide to Scarborough, Maine and Greater Portland.  They offer up-to-date information on the area and is a good place to plan a visit.  The site has plenty of local links.

History

Maine in the Civil War from the Maine State Archives

According to the Milo Historical Society local Folklore relates that Theophilus Sargent, one of the community's earliest settlers, was given the honor of choosing the town's name. His choice was in all probability based upon the following Greek legend: Milo (6th Century B.C.)
Milo was a famous Greek athlete in the latter part of the 6th century B.C. It was claimed that he once carried a four-year-old cow through the stadium at Olympia. Afterwards, he ate the whole animal. The story goes that, as an old man, he tried to tear an oak tree in two, but the trunk closed on his hands and pinned him to the tree. While held there, he was attacked and devoured by wolves.

Sebec Historical Society is a new site with good basic information of the history and people of the region.

The Center for Maine History in Portland, is comprised of the Maine Historical Society Research Library, the Maine History Gallery, and the historic Wadsworth-Longfellow House.  A great place to explore also with things to buy.

Also in Maine is the Harpswell Historical Society and the Kennebec Historical Society
